Celeb-Backed Vegan Bacon Startup Gears up for Nationwide Launch
Coming soon to grocery shelves near you, a new plant-based bacon backed by organic food leaders and none other than Robert Downey Jr. is set to hit the mass retail market in 2021.
Just launched in November 2020 and currently sold at NY-based grocer Honest Weight Food Co-op, MyBacon uses mycelium (the root structure of mushrooms) to create a six-ingredient, crispy, sizzling bacon that imitates the flavor and mouthfeel of the real thing.
“I’ve been stocking MyBacon strips since November 2020 and it continues to sell out every week. The product tastes so much like bacon we decided to sell it alongside the real thing rather than with the other plant-based ground meats,” said Mo Durr, Meat Department Manager at Honest Weight Food Co-op in Albany, NY.
