Owner of Compassion Meals, Nkoyo Adakama, told VegOut “I was inspired to create compassion meals after I was sexually assaulted and voiceless for 2 years. I found compassion for ALL living things that have no voice and used cooking vegan food as a way to get through that time in my life.” Nkoyo wants to bring positivity to the community, saying, “Eating a plant-based diet is important because compassion begins on your plate; plant-based eating can be delicious and satisfying without causing harm to living things!”

Compassion Meals is one of the few Black-owned vegan businesses in Sacramento and opening a dine-in is the next step for the company, as they have outgrown pop-up events. “We will strive to be a stepping stone for change within our community,” Nkoyo adds,” by employing those who need it most, partnering with local organizations to assist with ongoing meal support and so much more! Veganism shouldn’t only be available to those who can afford it but available to ALL.”

The establishment hopes to serve a variety of vegan dishes, including their famous vegan Fried Chick’n Which, Fried Chick’n Buckets, shakes, fries, and more.
