Popular Los Angeles-based coffee chain Alfred Coffee is offering free vegan affogatos this Saturday, April 17, at its Melrose location. The caffeinated sweet beverages will be made with a shot of Alfred’s signature espresso poured over Brave Robot ice cream, a vegan ice cream company.
Brave Robot is unlike any other vegan ice cream because it’s made with animal-free whey protein. The company devised a way to formulate whey protein without harming any cows—think of clean meat technology, but for cow’s milk. Brave Robot ice cream is lactose- and hormone-free, yet it retains the same properties of dairy because it’s made from whey protein. Pints of Brave Robot are available for nationwide shipping online as well as in several supermarkets including Sprouts and Ralphs. Flavors range from simple vanilla to more inventive options such as Raspberry White Truffle, Blueberry Pie, and PB ‘N Fudge.
The Alfred affogatos will be served exclusively at the Alfred Coffee on Melrose on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers are recommended to order early, as the chain expects it will run out.
