While traditional Japanese ramen is often made with a meat- or fish-based broth, vegan-friendly ramen shops are popping up all over. These restaurants are serving up inventive, plant-based ramen that is tasty and satisfying without the cruelty. Check out our favorite places to find vegan ramen in LA.

Ramen Hood


This all vegan ramen shop offers two versions of ramen, one with spicy paste and one without. Both begin with a broth of simmered kelp and shiitake, roasted sunflower seeds, and white miso. What really stands out at Ramen Hood is the vegan egg. Yup, you heard correct. The yolk even pops like the real thing.


Sawtelle and Melrose

Many vegan creations are possible at Tatsu as all of the ramen bowls are customizable. If you want a straightforward vegan option opt for the Hippie Ramen. This dish begins with an onion, soy, and ginger broth and is topped with with spinach and tofu. Vegan extras include corn, garlic, seaweed, green onions, and mushrooms. When they say “ramen with a soul,” they aren’t kidding.

Slurpin’ Ramen Bar


Not only can you create your own ramen, but you can order it to-go for those nights when a hot cup of soup on the couch sounds just right. Slurpin’ offers a vegan broth and noodles in addition to many veggie toppings like bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, jalapenos, and tofu.

Gokoku Vegetarian Ramen Shop

Studio City

The vegan options are endless at this meat-free, dairy free ramen shop. The ramen base consists of baby bok choy, jicama, and mushroom, but multiple variations are offered. We like the Curry Ramen and Pineapple Kale varieties.

Urban Ramen


Multiple vegan options are offered at Urban Ramen including Maitake Shoyu Ramen, Spicy Vegan Ramen, and Vegan Tantan Men. The latter features spicy soy meat in a sesame broth with noodles and vegetables. Veggie sushi and other plant-based dishes can also be found here.


Culver City and DTLA

In addition to the amazing vegan sushi, Shojin offers several plant-centered ramen bowls. We like the Ramen of the Century created with a rich tahini, asparagus, tomato, pumpkin, eggplant, and mushroom broth. Many ramen toppings can also be added, like soy “chicken” and vegan “egg.”

Ramen Champ


This authentic ramen counter is bringing flavors straight from Tokyo. Ramen Champ now offers two vegan ramen dishes, Shoyu Ramen and Miso Ramen, both chock full of vegetables, tofu, and spinach noodles. Vegan Fried Rice can also be found on the menu along with various tofu dishes.
