SF Bay Area Vegan Restaurants Open for Takeout and Delivery During COVID-19

SF Bay Area Vegan Restaurants Open for Takeout and Delivery During COVID-19

Apr 1, 2020 BY: Lisa Tran

Social distancing doesn’t mean you need to go on a pantry foods-only diet and stop enjoying the dishes of local businesses. With many places still open and serving their communities, a comforting meal is now only a phone call or online order away. Here are 15 Bay Area businesses offering fantastic options for vegan meals and treats ready to be conveniently picked up or delivered straight to your door.

Note: Even though these businesses are in operation as of this article’s publication date, things are changing each day. Before ordering, we recommend calling the business or checking its socials for the latest operation updates. Also, when possible, order directly from the business, and tip your delivery person very well!

The Butcher’s Son

Berkeley

Takeout

This Bay Area vegan staple is open for your Herbed Garlic Lemon Chicken Sandwich and fridge-friendly vegan essential needs. View their menu and order online, then drop by to pick up. Don’t forget to grab a sandwich or a few items from their market to pop into the fridge or freezer for later. Try the take-&-heat wood-fired pizzas or any of their house-made vegan meats.

The Cultured Pickle Shop

Berkeley

Takeout

Lovers of The Cultured Pickle Shop’s weekend Rice & Pickle Bowls can still pick up a bowl at the shop’s West Berkeley location. Each bowl is topped with a variety of greens and fermented vegetables that change weekly. Reserve a bowl for pickup ahead of time by phone call or email. They only make a certain number of bowls each Saturday and Sunday, so definitely contact them in advance!

Spices 3

Oakland

Takeout & delivery via Caviar, Grubhub, & Yelp

Think “vegan” around Downtown Oakland, and Spices 3 comes to mind. The crowd favorites Silky Tofu Bowl with Flaming Red Oil with its cubes of delicate tofu and Fried Tofu with Explosive Chili Pepper will fire up your taste buds and may leave you with some beads of sweat. Call to pick up a few dishes, or order for delivery as most of their items are very travel friendly.

Vegan Mob

Oakland

Takeout & delivery via Uber Eats

Vegan Mob’s plant-based flair on passed-down recipes of Chef Toriano Gordon’s family is the type of comfort we all need right now. Get a small or large Mob Plate with either smoked plant-based brisket, ribs, or BBQ fried shrimp and country-style sides, and let the hearty meal bring some warmth to your soul (and belly)!

S+M Vegan

Oakland

Takeout (& delivery to elderly or immunocompromised in Oakland)

Fans of S+M Vegan have been cheering with joy as the pop-up continues to offer its Singaporean and Italian-influenced flavors for pickup by pre-ordering on their website. Don’t miss the Shaobing Sandwich stuffed between two thick slabs of sesame-crusted flatbread with a changing combo of fillings each time, from mapo tofu and rice cakes to Sichuan pepper-corned seitan and potato chips. Follow their Instagram for updates on their menu and when they will be offering pickup next.

Malibu’s Burger

Oakland

Takeout

Welcoming the new decade with its debut, Malibu’s Burgers throws Impossible 2.0 patties on the grill of its food truck (check their social for updates where they will be parked next) and dresses them up with additions such as “bacon,” caramelized onion, and “lizard sauce” as featured on the Needy Meaty Burger. ‘Nuff said. We’ll take one ASAP, please.

Plate Craft Catering

Emeryville

Delivery via their website

Catering business turned local meal delivery service, Plate Craft Catering is currently offering the community meals from their kitchen that are ready to reheat throughout the week, including some freezer-friendly items like the Thai Coconut Veggie Curry and Carrot Ginger Soup. Delivery is on Saturdays. Make sure to check their website for their current delivery area. While ordering on their website, consider selecting the option to donate a meal to someone in need.

DiLac Vegetarian Cuisine

Don’t let the name fool you. Everything is vegan! If you’re looking for something different, the underrated Chicken Curry Vermicelli Soup made with a coconut-milk based curry is the perfect introduction to the Vietnamese way of eating curry.

Tea Lyfe Drinks

San Jose

Takeout

Boba runs have been the new post-meal coffee runs. And when a place offers many dairy-free milk options, you know we will be sprinting instead running! Tea Lyfe Drinks sources local ingredients to use in their milk tea and fruit tea drinks, many of which can be made vegan. During this time, they are occasionally offering pickup, so keep an eye out on their Instagram for the latest updates.

Merit Vegan Cuisine

Sunnyvale

Takeout & delivery via DoorDash

This is one of the go-to spots to get several shareable dishes for your table and maybe a few more to pop into your fridge and reheat later on. Don’t miss Merit Vegan Cuisine’s Spicy Tango, a house specialty of fried seitan sauteed in garlic, onions, and peppers. For something refreshing, try the Lotus Salad, a crunchy and tangy mix of lotus stems, shredded cabbage, tofu, carrot, fried onion, mint, and peanuts served with vegan shrimp chips.
