Where to Eat Vegan on NYE and New Year’s Day in Chicago

New year, who dis? With the conclusion of 2019, what better way to celebrate all that went down this year than with a delicious plant-powered plate of goodness? Whether you’re gorging in your last splurge of the year or initiating your health-inspired resolution, we’ve come up with a list of vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants open for the two-day celebration! Ring in the new year (and decade) at one of these vegan hot spots in Chicago!

Chicago Diner

3411 N Halsted St, Chicago, IL 60657 and 2333 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647

Enjoy comfort food from 10-4pm at the Chicago Diner on New Year’s Eve. Try seasonal dishes such as the Stuffed Zucchini Empanaditas and the Tofu Marsala—breaded tofu and mashed potatoes topped with marsala mushroom sauce. And don’t forget to order one of their indulgent milkshakes to satisfy your sweet tooth!

Kal’ish

1313 W Wilson Ave, Chicago, IL 60640

Stop by Kal’ish in Uptown for Rio’s Taquitos—kar-nita jack fried rolled tacos with salsa, crema, pico, guac and chilis or a Basket of Crisps with a side order of Chili Mac and Crunch. They also have all day breakfast!

Upton’s Breakroom

2054 W Grand Ave, Chicago, IL 60612

Upton’s Breakroom is open their regular hours from 11am-7:30pm on New Year’s Eve! We love the Breakfast Sandwich with a side order of Fried Bacon Mac, and a cookie for dessert. No reservations needed—stop by and enjoy nostalgic plant-based comfort food.

Kitchen 17

3132 N Broadway, Chicago, IL 60657

Who’s ready for one last 2019 celebration? Kitchen 17 is hosting an all-vegan NYE Pizza (Buffet) Party! $20 per person will get you all-you-can-eat pizza and a drink. Enjoy classic New York Style pizza, Chicago Deep Dish, and surprise specials.

Seadog Sushi Bar

1500 W Division St, Chicago, IL 60642

Seadog Sushi Bar will be open their regular hours, from 4-11pm, and has an incredible vegan-friendly menu. Order vegan gyoza, tofu yakisoba, and maki rolls such as the Secret Garden. Additionally, they have a five-piece vegan sushi set with asparagus, avocado, grilled sweet, seaweed salad, gunkan, and inari.

Blue Saki Sushi Grill

123 Water St, Naperville, IL 60540

In the Chicago suburbs? Blue Saki Sushi Grill will be open to satisfy your cravings. They’ll be open New Year’s Eve from 11am-9:30pm and New Year’s Day from noon-9:30pm. They have an all-vegan section of the menu that has customer favorites such as Avo Ahimi, Shiitake to Me, and Cowgirl. Order from over 10 vegan rolls, with gluten-free options and the ability to customize! Happy Hour will be 2-5:30pm on NYE. And don’t forget dessert! Try the Chocolate Torte—chocolate ganache with coconut milk, toasted coconut, and cashew, served with raspberry sorbet.

Handlebar

2311 W North Ave, Chicago, IL 60647

Handlebar will be open regular hours from 10am-midnight both New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day! No reservations needed—it’s first come, first served! We’ll take an order of the Fried Pickles, Fried Avocado Tacos, and an Everything Green salad!

ALTHEA

700 N Michigan Ave, 7th Floor, Chicago, IL 60611

ALTHEA’s New Year’s Eve dinner, a 4-course prix fixe menu with complimentary champagne, is sold out. However, join them for brunch starting at 11am on New Year’s Day for delicious items such as their French Toast. Be sure to make your reservations!
