New All-Vegan Diner, Munchies, Opens in Santa Ana
With early morning coffee, oversized midday sandwiches, and late night pancakes, diners comfort our souls during almost any time of day. Something about those excessive portions, fuss-free atmospheres, and friendly servers seems to sum up the American experience under one roof. Similar to most Americans’ traditional upbringings, diners specialize in hefty meat sandwiches, fried cheese sticks, egg-soaked breads, dairy-laden cakes, and—well, you get the idea. We’d like the same cornucopia of hometown grub with vegan-friendly options. Is that too much to ask?
Apparently, not anymore. Enter the world of Munchies Diner in Orange County. Munchies serves up all-day breakfast, cheesy grilled sandwich melts, creamy milkshakes, loaded fries, and did we mention a donut burger? Because yeah, they have that too. Munchies doesn’t just deliver on flavor however—they’ve got the laid-back vibe and talkative staff to solidify their position as a bonafide, hometown diner. They’ve also got the late hours to boost their rank, they’ll be open to 11pm Sunday through Thursday and 2am on Friday and Saturday! Munchies? More like drunchies!
By combining nostalgic dishes with organic ingredients, local partnerships, and sharp culinary technique, Munchies captivated the people of Orange County enough to go from a pop-up to a brick-and-mortar store in just seven months. One such collab comes from OC’s very own Hug Life, who supplies Munchies with a special almond and oat milk ice cream, which forms the base for their hand-spun milkshakes and bubbly floats. This shifts the image of eating local from dirt-covered carrots to something smooth, rich, and enjoyable (no offense, carrots).
Munchies ensures we no longer have to fly back East to reclaim our love affair with red and white tiles and 12am breakfast sandwiches.
